A Fresh Look at “Fresh Look”: 2022-24 Impact Report

The Texas Center for Local Food's SNAP-Ed project, “A Fresh Look at Your Farmers Market," is entering its fourth year!

According to U.S. Census data, Texas distributed $6 billion in SNAP payments in 2020, but only $188,000 was spent at farmers markets and with direct marketing farmers. The Fresh Look Project’s central goal is to increase the number of SNAP dollars spent at Texas farmers markets. This has the dual benefit of increasing farmers’ revenue while increasing equitable access to local food for all Texans.

We are happy to report that we have seen great progress over the last three years of project implementation. Since the start of our project, 1,257,531 SNAP-eligible people have been reached through social marketing, $229,135 total SNAP dollars have been spent with our partner farmers markets, and 18 farmers markets have begun accepting SNAP through our partnership.

See our Farmers Market Services Impact Dashboard from 2022-24 for full project-to-date progress on our key metrics.
