A Fresh Look at Success: Milestones in Expanding SNAP at Farmers Markets

Our Fresh Look at Your Farmers Market project has achieved remarkable success since its launch in 2022. In our latest update, we’re proud to share that we’ve helped 18 farmers markets begin accepting SNAP and reached over 1.25 million SNAP-eligible shoppers through targeted marketing and outreach. Together, these efforts have driven $229,135 in total SNAP spending at our partner farmers markets. This spending goes directly to farmers and supports our Texas local economies.
As we close our third year, we are thrilled to report that this has been our most successful year yet. Despite setting ambitious goals for October 2023 to September 2024, we’ve met each one! Here’s a look at what we accomplished:
Social Marketing
We aimed to connect with 355,000 SNAP-eligible Texans through marketing and outreach efforts—and ended up reaching an incredible 492,720 people. This success stems from thoughtful collaboration with marketing experts, incorporating feedback from SNAP shoppers across Texas, and working closely with our partner farmers markets.
SNAP Spending
Thanks to our research and strategic insights, more SNAP dollars were spent at partner farmers markets than ever before. Our original goal was $70,000, but we saw $112,409 in SNAP benefits spent—a clear testament to the power of our combined efforts.
Markets Now Accepting SNAP
This project sits at the crossroads of community-building, farmer support, and food access. Our goal was to help 11 markets start accepting SNAP benefits—and we achieved that! We’re excited to see these programs thrive and grow in the years ahead.
