Sheri L. Smith, Ph.D., AICP, is a member of Texas Local Food due to her dedication to ensuring equitable access to produce in urban areas. 

She is an associate professor at Texas Southern University, specializing in Urban Planning and Environmental Policy, where she teaches courses on sustainability and urban infrastructure.

In addition to teaching, Sheri co-manages a 2-acre garden at TSU, which aims to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the community. 

She works closely with others in Houston’s Third Ward and the larger Precinct One to integrate community gardens into Houston’s broader food network. 

Her current research project focuses on the implementation of an Urban Agriculture District in the city.
