Another Delicious Farm-to-Kids Season
We’re excited to share the wonderful journey our after-school Farm-to-Kids program has taken this season. Our students have been diving into the vibrant world of local food and farming, learning not just where their food comes from, but how to appreciate and nurture it. Each year we welcome a few new students and many familiar faces to the Farm-to-Kids classroom. This Fall we even got to expand programing into Elgin ISD’s newest campus, Harvest Ridge Elementary.
From planting seeds to take home to exploring the campus gardens, our program is all about hands-on experiences. Our students were able to learn all about seasonal eating by whipping up delicious recipes using fresh produce from area farmers markets. Favorite recipes this year included zucchini spaghetti, peach jam, and avocado lime salsa. Our cooking activities not only foster a love for healthy eating but also teach valuable lessons about creativity, sustainability, and community. By starting students in the kitchen as early as first grade, we hope we’re setting up for a vibrant future in our food system .
Every session is filled with play, learning, and connection. Our program expands every season, and this year was no exception. Here’s to another fruitful year of growing together!
