Engaging families and increasing sales at Texas farmers markets

Shoppers at the Chaparral Crossing Farmers Market

This year, Texas Center for Local Food received a Farmers Market Promotion Program grant–the only one awarded in the state of Texas!

Our project promotes the sale of Texas-grown agricultural products at farmers markets through family engagement events. Over the course of the grant, we will work with a small group of farmers markets to host 100 events and to develop an online course and two family engagement toolkits for farmers markets across Texas and the nation.

One of our partner markets, Chaparral Crossing Farmers Market, hosted their first family engagement event on March 2. The market invited shoppers to bring a friend who hadn’t visited the market before, and the event was a huge success!

Market manager Nancy Helton shared that visitors were very excited to share the market with their friends and to support local farmers and ranchers! Over 140 market visitors participated in the event.

Stay tuned for more fun family events! We can’t wait to share more about the project as it continues.
