Improving Food System Resilience and Disaster Preparedness in Bastrop County, Texas
Texas Center for Local Food (TCLF) has been awarded funds from the Southern Extension Risk Management Education Center to support the resilience of our local farms and food system in the face of natural disaster. We're working with a team of local farmers to develop a risk management checklist and communication network, and to host webinars to provide information about Bastrop County disaster resources.
This project builds upon work performed by Iowa State University's food systems team and Texas Center for Local Food to understand the impact of multiple natural disasters and COVID-19 on farmers and the Bastrop County food system. Our current project focuses on two of the key recommendations from the Iowa State research: building the communication network and creating a risk management checklist.
