Farmers Market Buddies Coupon Program

Boosting SNAP Benefits in the Rio Grande Valley

A variety of local produce, in rustic wooden containers

The Farmers Market Buddies project is an innovative, community-focused initiative designed to increase SNAP EBT sales at farmers markets in Cameron and Hidalgo counties through a word-of-mouth marketing campaign.

Thanks to funding from The Raul Tijerina Jr. Foundation, we are offering $10 coupons to SNAP shoppers and up to 5 of their “buddies” at the Brownsville Farmers Market and the McAllen Farmers Market from June until November 2025.

By incentivizing current SNAP shoppers to bring new shoppers to local farmers markets, this project will expand access to healthy, locally produced food for lower income families while fostering stronger community engagement and support for regional food systems.

It's Simple:

Invite up to five buddies for a fun farmers market hangout on Saturday morning.
Shop with SNAP at the farmers markets.
Each receives $10 to spend on locally grown raw products like fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, and honey.
Coupons will be available from June 1st, 2025 up to November 30th, 2025 or while funds last. No change is given.
