EDUCATION
Farmshare Austin aims to provide a training pathway for beginning farmers to a career in farming through the following programs:
1. Farmer Starter is a five month entry level immersive farmer training program on a working, certified organic, diversified vegetable farm designed to provide aspiring farmers with the essential skills and training needed to manage a sustainable farming business. Farmer As of March 31, 2025, there have been 117 Farmer Starter graduates - 66% are working directly in farming, 85% working in farming or somewhere else in the food system, and 45% have started their own businesses.
2. Cultivator offers Farmer Starter graduates the chance to start their own micro-farm for up to one year. We supply the land, tools, equipment and mentorship and purchase their harvest for our Food Access programs or help them to connect with other buyers.
3. The Central Texas Farm Incubator Collaborative provides beginning farmers in the start-up phase of their business with access to land, infrastructure, mentorship, business training and marketing outlets to bridge barriers to starting and sustaining a farm. This 3 year program serves advanced beginning farmers with at least 2 years of experience and/or who have completed an entry level farmer training program.
4. Community Classes and Workshops - Farmshare Austin partners with other local organization to offer a variety of classes and workshops to the Central Texas Farming Community.
